Summit League Tournament a Slam Dunk for Arena
SMG, the worldwide leader in sports entertainment and convention venue management, and the management company of the Sioux Falls Arena, announced today that early results from the Summit League Basketball Tournament point to a potential six figure profit. Combined earnings from the four day event come from rent, ticketing, food and beverage sales, and equipment rentals.
The tournament featured the top eight men’s and women’s teams from the Summit League Conference playing a total of 14 games over four days. The Summit League Tournament winners gained automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament.
The economic benefit to the community is expected to be in the millions. The Sioux Falls Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and city officials are working to calculate the overall impact to the area.
“The Summit League Tournament was a tremendous success,” Mayor Dave Munson said. “We’ve heard wonderful feedback from our visitors and look forward to hosting this great event again next year.”
“With record crowds, due to the overwhelming support of area sports fans, and two locally based teams in South Dakota State and North Dakota State, the event was an incredible success – exceeding our best expectations,” said Russ DeCurtins, General Manager for SMG-Sioux Falls. “SMG is proud to have played a role in bringing this multi-year event to Sioux Falls.”
